As you go through my blog you will see that i really like android and the phones that it supports. I really do prefer this OS to any other but it does have one major flaw. This flaw consists of the complicated way they update the OS. Because they have such a wide array of phones that use their OS they have to have specific versions for each phone and THAT is regulated by the phone company. So in reality it isn’t necessarily Google’s fault. For example, when Google came out with Android 2.2 Frodo they released it in May of 2010, but very good capable phones made from HTC, such as the Droid Incredible, did not receive the official update until August 2010. Nearly 3 months after it was released. I see how this could irritate and annoy so many people. Of course though to most problems there is a solution. The solution to this problem is the fact that so many people are starting to modify their phones to update early. This is possible because if one phone has it then developers and adults that live in their mom’s basement can alter the software to be able to be used on any specific phone. Not only that but some have found out how to use other phones software on theirs to use specific capabilities. The only problems with this are some companies are now making it policy that if you do this it could void your contract and/or warranty. Now that the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS has come out more and more people are considering modifying/rooting to be the first ones to have the new software on their select phones that may not receive for months to come.
